Isn't that a marvelous name for a town? No vowels whatsoever....pronounced vir (as in veer) ni (as in knee) ka. My husband tells me that we once had lunch just a few miles from this village-beside a lovely, absolutely green river. It was a beautiful place-peaceful and gorgeous.

He further tells me the Pirnat family may have Jewish roots-dating back to the Sephardim emmigration from Spain in 1492. But that's not sure-in any case many of them converted to Catholicism subsequently.
