I just reread your posting and had some additional thoughts. Your photos from the Civil War...are hopefully of Wm. R.Penn (1840) and John Dipley Penn (1835), if so, they are first cousins. John D. was a son of Thomas W. Penn (1812).
I have burial information for your line, and an intriguing newspaper article from 1904 with photos of Wm. R., his son William H.(1875) and grandson, William C. (1897). This article reports the family oral history of a descendancy from William Penn, The Founder.
