I originally had Amanda Penn as nee Dipley, because she is listed in a census (1850?/1960?) with John and Margaret Dipley, father and mother-in-law to Thomas Penn (1812). After finding this information I spent an inordinate amount of time researching Dipley. Through someone in the Dipley line I learned that both John and Margaret were widower/widow. Amanda Penn's death certificate cites her father's name as LEVI RYKER and mother MARGARET, nee unlisted. THUS John Dipley is Amanda Ryker-Penn's step-father who married her mother in the year preceding John Dipley Penn's birth...and presumably was named in honor of Old John Dipley. Ironically, Amanda's other (surviving)daughter, Susan Penn (probably named for her aunt Susan Ann Ryker Penn)married Edward Van Riper whose mother was Martha Dipley, daughter of Old John Dipley. What we have here are several family members marrying several ancillary family members. IT HAPPENS, eh?
