I am trying to find out whom the parents of: Thomas William Peters (born bet. 28 Jul 1803 – 1804) were. He married Hannah Townsend (born Abt. 1808), daughter of JOHN TOWNSEND and MARTHA YEAMANS. From the Otty Papers, we know that Thomas William Peters was a farmer with his residence in the Wickham area, Queens Co., N.B.

Does anyone know where he and his wife were buried?

They had at least one known child: Thomas William Robert Peters, b. 12 May 1828, Wickham, Queens Co., N.B.; d. 02 Feb 1902, Richfield, Hennepin Co., Minnesota; m. Sarah Amm Benner, b. 01 Aug 1833, Dennysville, Washington Co., Maine; d. Jun 1920, Santa Barbara, California. From the Gagetown Parrish-Anglican Church Records; Gagetown Anglican Baptisms 1786 – 1901, and the Marianne Grey Otty Papers, Book 5 – 1825-1833, we learn that Thomas William Robert Peters was baptized by Rev. Samuel Clarke about 14 May 1828, at Hampstead, Queens Co.). Both were buried at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, Minnesota.

According to Dee Peters Lutz's great aunt, Anabel Peters, who was born 1864 in the State of Maine, and converted to the Mormon faith. ... told the Missionary that Thomas William Peters, born 28 July 1803 in New Brunswick was married to "Hannah Townsend … baptized 3 June 1804 in Hampstead, Queens Co., N.B. … the Peters were Loyalists, who migrated from Dutchess Co., New York, but before that they lived in South Carolina.

In the 1860 Census for Edmunds, Washington Co., Maine, Thomas William Robert PETERS (age 32, born in New Brunswick) had a Mark (Marcus) PETERS (b.1835, age 25, born in New Brunswick) living with him and his wife. This was before Marcus PETERS, c1835, was married to Elizabeth DODGE in Maine. In the 1870 Census for Edmunds, Washington Co., Maine, Thomas William Robert Peters has six children, one of whom is Dee (Peters) Lutz's grandfather, Thomas Lincoln Peters, age 2. Marcus E. Peters, age 33, is married to Eliza (Dodge, age 30) and living in Township #14 (northwest of Dennysville), Washington Co., Maine.

This Marcus Peters was a descendant of:- WILLIAM PETERS ( 02 May 1772, Hampstead, New York - 04 Jan 1836, Woodstock, Carleton Co., N.B.) and CHARLOTTE HAINES (06 Oct 1773, Prov. Of New York - 05 Feb 1851, Kingston, Kings Co., N.B.).

A leap of faith would probably say that Thomas William Robert Peters (1828-1902) and Marcus Peters were cousins. But, where does Thomas William Robert Peters (1828-1902) fit in as a cousin? We know his parents: Thomas William Peters (born 1803/1804) and mother, Hannah Townsend, but not his grandparents.

There is a second Thomas William Peters (1803-1880) who parallels this Thomas William Peters (1803/1804- 1902) This Thomas William Peters was the son of William Peters and Charlotte Haines, that is related to me through a Carle/Peters connection. For want of a better term, I refer to him as: Thomas William Sr. Peters (born 28 Jul 1803 in Hampstead, Queens Co., N.B., and died 16 Jun 1880 in Saint John, St. John Co., N.B.) who married on 8 Mar 1845 in Sussex, Kings Co., N.B., Mary Ann McMonagle (born 1815 in Kings Co., N.B., and died 28 Jul 1854 in Saint John, St. John Co., N.B.), daughter of Cornelius McMonagle.

Daniel F Johnson (Vital Statistics,Vol. 10, #2742, p. 158) verifies this as follows:- New Brunswick Courier, Saint John, N.B., 8 March 1845 - m. Trinity Church, Sussex Vale (Kings Co.) Thursday morn., by Rev. H.N. Arnold, Thomas W. PETERS, Esq. of this city (St. John) / Mary Ann McMONAGLE youngest d/o late Cornelius McMONAGLE, Esq., Sussex.

Did this Thomas William Sr. Peters have any known living heirs? According to probated document written by Thomas W. Peters Jr.. dated 26 June 1880, probated 26 June 1880, there were two heirs:- ... Probate Court St. John Co. ... In the Estate of Thomas W. Peters ... Petition of Thomas W. Peters for Letters of Administration ... Filed 26 June 1880. ... #3. That the said Thomas W. Peters left two sons heirs surviving, namely, Your petitioner, the eldest, and Frederick C. Peters, now of San Francisco, California in the United States of America, Purser, and did not leave a widow or other Children.

However, we know that Thomas William Peters (1803-1880) and Mary Ann McMonagle had these children:
1. Thomas William PETERS (abt 1848 - 1895) His obituary: "Thomas W. Peters died" can be found in the Saint John Globe (St. John, New Brunswick) and Saint John Daily Telegraph (St. John, N.B.) for 1 April 1895:- RECENT DEATHS. --- Thomas W. Peters Esq. (Jr.) , ex-Mayor of St. John,, died unexpectantly on Saturday evening ... He was the son of the late Col. T.W. Peters ... and his mother was the sister of the lat Hugh McMonagle …
2. Frederick Cornelius PETERS was born about 19 October 1849 in New Brunswick. He died in Oakland, California 21 February 1938. He never married.
3. Edward Albert PETERS was born abt January 1852 and died in October 1852 "after an illness of 3 months".

From the Fernhill Cemetery records, we learn the following - 1) Thomas W. Peters Jr. (Age 47, Died March 30, 1895; 2) Edward A. Peters (Age 2mth., Died Oct 27, 1852, Son of Thomas Peters Sr. ); 3) Mary Ann Peters (Age 39, Died July 28, 1854, Wife of Thomas W. Peters); 4) Thomas W. Peters Sr. (Age 77, Died June 16, 1880, Barrister. Ex mayor of Saint John); 03.7) Frederick C. Peters (Age 89, Died Feb 21, 1938, Died & cremated at Oakland, California). Furthermore there is information from: Edward A. Everett, "William Peters Family; Charlotte Haines, the Loyalist Girl, and Her Descendants," Outremont, Quebec, 02 January 1937, p. 4. This person is probably deceased. Unfortunately there are no dates of birth for their three children: Thomas William PETERS, Frederick Cornelius PETERS and. Edward Albert PETERS.

The questions remains who were the parents of Thomas William Peters (born bet. 28 Jul 1803 – 1804), the spouse of Hannah Townsend.

If anyone can assist me, I would appreciate this assistance. I would like to thank anyone in advance who replies to this request.

In trust, George Shaw.
