SAMMIE LOUISE JACKSON, born November 24, 1914, in Richards, Texas, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Houston, Texas. Sammie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend. The daughter of Sam and Mollie Petree. Sammie was raised in Huntsville, Texas where she received bachelor and master's degrees from Sam Houston State Teacher's College. Sammie devoted her career to education, teaching in the school systems of Klein and Missouri City, Texas and later working in the Fort Bend Independent School District, where husband L.P. Rodgers served as the school district's first superintendent. Sammie was a faithful member of Tallowood Baptist Church for 30 years. She was past president of the Women's Christian Home in Houston, where she worked diligently to help enhance the lives of the women it served. She is survived by her loving husband, Randy Jackson; sister, Lilla Mae Gray; daughters Molly Rodgers Grassman and Pat Rodgers; and several nieces and nephews. Sammie will be remembered for her strength, courage, and dignity and for her unwavering resolve to live a long and full life. The family wishes to acknowledge Judy Arroyo and Anna Santiago for their service and heartfelt dedication to Sammie's quality of life in her final months. The family will receive friends at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road @ Dairy Ashford on Friday, July 20, 2001 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home at 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2001, with interment to follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
