I am looking for information for my gggrandmother Mary Pettes/pettis/pettit. She was born in SC, about 1804. Do you have any infomation some of Petree family moved to Spartanburg, SC and name was changed to Pettis/Pettit. She married Nathan Buice/Buijs/Buis/Bice.This name was changed also. Listed under so many different names, it not easy to know which is correct name. My dad said orginal name sounded like Buice.Nathan Buice/Bice was born in Spartanburg SC. The Orginal Family was suppose to be full blood German. One story from other family members, 3 Buis? brothers arrived in Penn. from Germany. Other researchers have family Dutch and from Netherlands. This is not what was passed down in my family.
My information passed down that Nathan Family was from a town,city had a similar sound as Bellview/Bellville, Germany. Just wondering if anyone has information on this place in Germany.
Mary and Nathan was in St. Clair, Al. in 1860 and died there.
