William Pomeroy, son of James and Sarah (Lyon) Pomeroy

I have recently turned my attention towards the James and Sarah (Lyon) Pomeroy family in doing research for another of our projects, The Pomeroy Anvil Trail. We're getting ready to install a monument in Syracuse, NY and I wanted to make sure that I had researched all the Pomeroys in the Onondaga Co., area, when I came across Austin Lyon Pomeroy, son of James and Sarah. This lead to a search of his brothers, with led me to Frederick, and particularly William Pomeroy. According to Albert A. Pomeroy, William Pomeroy was b. 30 Aug 1811, son of James Pomeroy and Sally (Sarah) Lyon. James' ancestry is William Pomeroy, Daniel Pomeroy, Ebenezer Pomeroy, Deacon Medad Pomeroy, Eltweed Pomeroy. According to Albert A. Pomeroy, William Pomeroy md. Mirantha Pierce of Ovid, NY and had the following children:
Jane M. Pomeroy, b. 9 Mar 1837
William C. Pomeroy, b. 8 Apr 1838, d. 21 Nov 1864
Rollin C. Pomeroy, b. 16 Aug 1839
Louis S. Pomeroy, b. 13 May 1841
Ellen M. Pomeroy, b. 8 Mar 1846
Francis J (Frank) Pomeroy, b. 20 Nov 1848
Alice G. Pomeroy, b. 11 Oct 1855

In doing some research on the James and Sally (Lyon) Pomeroy family, I discovered what I believe to be an error in A. A. Pomeroy's research. I believe that he mixed 2 William Pomeroys up, and that William, son of James did not marry Mirantha Pierce, he married Julia R. Bliss. Their children were:
Harrietta (or Harriet) M. Pomeroy, b. abt Jun 1850, Seneca Co., NY
Jennie E. Pomeroy, b. abt 1853, Seneca Co., NY
Edward William (or William Edward) Pomeroy, b. abt 1859, Seneca Co., NY

William Pomeroy, b. abt 1814, MA, husband of Julia R, was a cabinet maker in Ovid, Seneca Co., NY, according to the 1850, 1860, 1870 & 1880 US Federal Census records. Also living in Ovid in 1850 and 1860, and a cabinet maker himself, was Frederick B. Pomeroy and family, who I believe was William's brother. I'm also researching this family using the Syracuse City Directories at the Bird Library at Syracuse University - as brothers Charles and Austin Lyon Pomeroy moved to Syracuse.. Haven't gotten all the data yet, so there will probably be more information to come.

I believe the William Pomeroy who married Mirantha Pierce was actually the son of John Spencer and Elizabeth (Smith) Pomeroy. This Williams ancestry is William Pomeroy, John Spencer Pomeroy, Capt. John Pomeroy, Nathaniel Pomeroy, Capt. Joseph Pomeroy, Deacon Medad Pomeroy, Eltweed Pomeroy. According to A. A. Pomeroy, William Pomeroy, husband of Mirantha Pierce, was born 31 Aug 1812. According to Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850, available through the New England Historic Genealogical Association, "William Pomeroy, h[usband] Marantha Pierce, [was born] Aug. 30, 1811". Also, according to Mass Vital Records 1841-1910 (also through NEHGS), images online show according to the Deaths Registered in the Town of Agawam for the Year Nineteen Hundred and Two, "Marantha Pomeroy, Pierce, wife of William Pomeroy, d. April 26, lived, died and buried in Agawam, place of birth: Monson, parents Sabrinas[?] Pierce and Elsie Dallon" (Marantha was not born in Ovid, NY. - I don't believe this family was ever in Ovid, NY.)

Is anyone else researching these families? I'd love to exchange information.

Thanks,
Nancy Maliwesky
