Elizabeth, Here is what I have on Benjamin and Humphrey of Barnwell County and their interaction with Abraham Posey. Abraham Posey purchased 112 acres of land from William Kirkland for 130.00. The land was part of a tract of land given to Benjamin Kirkland on Aug. 4, 1788. The land bought by Abraham was located on the southside of the Edistoe River on a stream known as little pond branch. This deed was dated 03 Feb 1808, signed by William Kirkland and wittnessed by Benjamin and Humphrey Posey. Benjamin Posey signed his name with the initial < B > while Humphrey signed a mark. Humphrey Posey, 10 years later signed with a mark on an oath stating the he was present when William Kirkland conveyed the 112 acres to Abraham Posey. Abraham Posey again purchased 142 acres of land from Moses Smith of Barnwell County on 05 Apr 1815. He paid 200.00 for the land and it was located on part of Benjamin Kirkland's land grant dated 1788. This land was also on the southside of the Edistoe but on a creek known as Beaverdam Creek. This deed was signed by Moses Smith and witnessed by Richard Blalock and George Lamar. More land was purchased on 08 May 1817 from James Wilkerson. A Benjamin Posey purchased land from Eldred Simpkins on 10 Mar 1817. This land was located at the fork of Shaw's Creek, Barnwell County SC. The deed of conveyance was witnessed by Daniel Rittere and Abraham Posey. Abraham Posey signed his name with an initial < A > similar in nature to the above mentioned Benjamin Posey signature. On 16 Feb 1820 Abraham signed an oath stating he was present when Eldred Simpkins sold the property to Benjamin Posey. On the 1820 census for the state of SC, Barnwell County page 10, Abraham Posey is listed as follows: 2 males under age of 10 1 male between age of 10 and 16 1 male between age of 26 and 45 1 female under age of 10 1 female between age of 26 and 45 Adjacent to Abraham Posey is Benjamin Posey and Humphrey Posey, both over 45 yrs of age.
