As a descendant of Broderick Mason and his wife Jane (assumed to be a Posey), I'm very interested in this exchange, though I come late to the table.
I've spent most of my energies on Masons and have done very little with Poseys. I did assume, based on names, that Jane was a Posey and that based on locations--and also assuming the "Pacy" of 1790 was really Posey--that she was a daughter of John Jr. An additional fact that supports the assumption that Jane was indeed a Posey is that her youngest son, Wiley (married a Hobby), went to Alabama with Poseys and various Hobbys. Apparently both parents died young, but I find their children in 1850--several with Hobbys, but a young Ann Mason was in the household of David T.[Trail, perhaps?] Posey, Lowndes Co. AL, 1850. David Posey is also listed as guardian of Alva W. Mason in his marriage bond of 1850. Some of these same children were in DeKalb Co. GA 1860, with the widow of Broderick and Jane's son William.
For me, that strengthens all the assumptions that have led to calling Broderick's wife a Posey! I think she was, but--yes, MANY assumptions in the mix! It's nice to see some real documentation on Spartanburg Poseys!
I think Broderick and Jane probably married ca. 1787 or so in Spartanburg. He was on tax rolls in Culpeper VA 1784 and sold (with his mother and stepfather) his father's property in Culpeper May 1785--at that point I think he took off for Spartanburg with his Hammett relatives.
