PREVIOUSLY POSTED IN 2002... My name is Brian Rooney. My grandfather, James Jerome Rooney was born in County Down Ireland circa 1880. My late father, Gerald Emmett Rooney spent considerable time before his death in 1994 trying to find any relatives on his fathers side, including a trip to Ireland in 1992 or '93 with my uncle Patrick. They were unsuccessful in their efforts. We have very little information to go on regarding my grandfather as he died in the spring of 1940 after a lengthy illness. His wife, Mary Teresa Gravelle had preceded him in 1931. In 1939 my father and his 3 younger siblings (there were 2 older) were sent to live in an orphanage and all of the family heirlooms, documents, or photos that may have existed were lost. My Aunt Brigid remembers writing to her grandmother Mary Agnes O'Hare at Muninabane, Dromeragh (Dromara? Dromore?) County Down in the mid 1930's. She thinks that he had at least 3 brothers, Hugh was the only name she can remember. James came to Canada soon after World War l and settled in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. This is where he met and married Mary Gravelle. They had 6 children, James, Brigid, Gerald, twins: Patrick & Kathleen and the youngest, Michael. Any information or potential sources that you might be able to direct me to would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Warm regards, Brian Notify Administrator about this message?
