I have traced my line to Joshua Johnston in the 1810 census of Horry County. Joshua had six sons--David (my ancestor), Enoch, Jacob, Joshua, Nathan, and William--and three daughters--names not known. According to Bible record and other sources, the elder Joshua moved to South Carolina from North Carolina some time after David was born in 1802, and both he and his wife (name unknown) died between 1810 and 1820. The Joshua in the 1820 census of Horry Co. was the son; he moved to Georgia in the early 1820's,as did most sons. Apparently, the sons all dropped the "t" from Johnston about that time. I am fairly confident, based on the sex and ages of the children that Joshua Sr. was in the 1800 census of Duplin County, N.C. And in the 1790 census of North Carolina, only two seemed to be likely candidates for our Joshua: the ones in Sampson and Edgecombe counties. I anyone has information on this Joshua Johnson in Horry Co. for the 1810 census, I would love to hear from you. Dorothy (Johnson) Callaway Notify Administrator about this message?
