Emergency Airfield......

Between 1940-1944 there was a civil aviation emergency field located near Lane and Gourdin Twp in Williamsburg SC.

After Pearl Harbor the Army Air Corps moved onto the airfield due to its proximity to the ACL railroad line etc.

There were farms and a forestry operation nearby at the time.

After the Air Corps got their fighter planes they abandoned the airfield.

I can still remember as a five year old when those pilots would come to clean my mother`s chicken houses for droppings to drop on the air crews at the air base in Charleston SC during their inspections.

Just wondering if that old emergency field is still in operation or is it now reverted back to farmland.
