Afternoon Abi

Donald Macintyre is quite a frequently encounterede name in the likely birth period in Scotland, so without more information, it is virtually impossible to identify accurately.

I suggeswt that you first look for the Marriage and Death Records for the couple in the Australian archives.

These wil give a better idea of the ages of the couple; and may also identify more positively where in Argyllshire they originated.

The sailing/arrival manifest for the boat may also have some information., particularly if either or both were in an identified group.

If they had any more children, it is worth getting their names, as they may conform to family patterns.

Headstones and Newspapers may also have reports.

The best source for Scottish BMD records is Scotland's People-

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

It is run on behalf of the Registrar General of Scotland.

The Statutory Registration part starts in 1855, so placing your couple in the OPR (Old Parish Records) sections. Close to all of those eld by the RGoS are avilable at the above URL, including scans of the original documents.

Unfortunately due to time, tide, pestilence etc, these OPRs are less complete than the SRs; and the OPRs cover mainly the presbyterian churches in Scotland.

The other denominations retained their OPRs and the surviving records for those other denominations are not held centrally, nor are they computerised generally.

Several of the Australian States have their SRs available on-line, I have accessed at least two state sets.

Another useful database is that of the LDS Family Search-

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

BUT try to confirm anything found on this site with that on the above official government sites. This particularly applies to any that are Submissions, rather than from "records for the locality".

Back on Scotland's People, depending when exactly the couple sailed, you may find the 1841 and 1851 Censuses of use.

The so-called "1881 British Census" only covers England & Wales, omitting Scotland & Irelnd, although this should not affect your present search.
