You are probably correct about Sara's maiden name being Cardin for you have worked on the Cardin family many more years than I was able to devote on them. James Sentell was the person who identified this William as the son of Sgt. Samuel Sentell, Sr. and Nancy Stephens and per the Family Bible, William was born Sept 18, 1783 in Halifax County, North Carolina. His first wife was named Martha who he married in Georgia, I have no information on him. I do believe she died in 1840 and they had one son named Lewis Sentell. Sara was his second wife, and I am assuming they were married in Alabama.
James, Deb Allen, Chuch Linwall and I are still working on the descendants of Samuel and Nancy Stephens Sentell and would like to hear from some of the descendants of other Sentell's in Alabama. I will be happy to make a document of the information on William from my FTM file if you will send me a note and tell me where to send it.
I do appreciate your help on the Cardin families all these years. I have never known much about them except what I have read in publications. Samuel P. Sentelle has a document on his Website about the descendants as we know them. Have you check it recently? In the meantime, I will attempt to see if I can find anyone else who might know about the Cardin family. Would be wonderful if you could find the marriage on William and Sara! Will keep looking myself.
