Who was the father of Anson Smith who married Mercy Maranda Smith, sometimes called Mary, on 18 Nov 1830 in Ruggles, Huron Co. (now Ashland Co.), Ohio? Mercy was the daughter of Daniel B. Smith and Clarissa Curtis, who were married 7 Dec 1796 in Warren, Litchfield Co., CT. Anson Smith was a member of the Congregational Church in Warren, like they were, before he went to Ruggles about the same time Daniel's family moved to Ruggles. Was Anson's father Daniel's brother? Anson was born about 30 Apr 1803, and he died 4 Jan 1865 in Prairie City, McDonough Co., Illinois. Mercy was born 2 Jul 1805 in Warren and died 17/18 Feb 1887. Their known children were: Daniel Brainerd Smith, who married Hannah Ward; Flora E. Smith, who married Thomas Vandercar (Vandecar, Van Decar, Van Dercar); Francis A. (died in infancy); and George N. (died in infancy).
