I have been trying to find out what happened to my Gt Grandfather JOHN CHARLES SOMERVILLE and his wife ALICE EMILY (ne GINN)after 1898. There is no sign of them on the British 1901 census. Because of this I think that they may have emigrated.
They disappeared after my Grandfather was born in 1898, leaving him to be brought up in children's homes.
They lived and married in the STRAND area of LONDON.
JOHN was born in either 1866 or 1870 and was a 'cook'.
His father GEORGE may have been Scottish.
ALICE EMILY (may also have been a cook)was born c1878 in London.
Any clues much appreciated!
