Dear Scott,
I must apologise for not replying to your message a long time ago but I do not monitor the site as often as I should.
The major location of the Somervilles in 1828 was Lanarkshire and Carnwath in particular.
Alexander has been a popular first or second name in my branch of the family and we have 7 successive generations with the name.
In the census for Lanarkshire for 1851 there are no Alexanders but 3 Williams (ages 60,24 and 14 years old).
