Harry Cox "HC" Strickler, 85, a longtime resident of Smithfield Street, Mt. Pleasant, died early Sunday morning, March 4, 2007, at his residence. He was born May 20, 1921, in Shoaf, a son of the late George Strickler and Nellie Orbin Mulroy Carnes. "HC" had been employed by Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, in the maintenance department with 13 years of service. Previously, he had been a popular bartender for the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post #446, where he also held membership for 60 years. He also was a member of the Bridgeport Sportsmen Club. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and served on a mine sweeper in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. "HC's" memory will forever be held in the hearts of his family: his loving and caring stepchildren, Louise Frey Miller and her husband, Donald, of Laurelville, Richard W. Frey, of Mt. Pleasant, with whom he resided, and Albert S. Frey and his wife, Amy, of Southwest; and the love of his life, his grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Kathleen Sethman, of Scottdale; brother, Randall "Donnie" Mulroy, of Connellsville; sisters-in-law, Sarah Kantorik, of Jumonville, and Dee Mulroy, of Scottdale; son-in-law, Donald Overly, of Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, "HC" was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Irene Parfitt Frey Strickler (Aug. 6, 1986); his stepdaughter, Shirley B. Frey Overly (Nov. 27, 1994); his stepfather, George Carnes; his brother, Buddy Mulroy; sisters, Patty Ann Cable, Sarah "Sally" Galloway, Laura Belle Miller and Clara Newlin; and his friend and brother-in-law, William Parfitt. "HC's" family will greet friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Mark E. Peachy, pastor of Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren, officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in Mt. Joy Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township, with full military honors accorded at the gravesite by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Scottdale Free Public Library Building Fund, 235 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, PA 15683, or Excela Health Home Care and Hospice, 134 Industrial Park Road, Greensburg, PA 15601, in memory of Harry C.
