Hi Patti,
My family is certainly in this line somehow. I just came back from a trip to Canehill, Prarie Grove Arkansas, and stayed in Talequah visiting the Cherokee History Museum what a great place that was. My grandmother was born in Strickler, Arkansas her name Ida Belle Vance married to John Eldridge Vance wife Martha Elizabeth Wilhite, Sharp then married John E. Vance.
I'm on this quest to figure out who was my Cherokee grandparent. Oh what fun this is. I tried one line stopped, now I'm pursuing this line again.
The information you have provided Patti gives me something else to go on, I appreciate it very much so yes you helped someone. My ggg grandparents were Jacob Strickler Sr. and Barbara Ellen Slaughter.
My line is John Eldridge Vance and Martha Elizabeth or Lizabeth Wilhite, Sharp, Vance. She first married LaFayette A. Sharp in 1858 Washington Co. Arkansas. Martha Elizabeth father Hiram Wilhite and mother Mary Ann Strickler. Mary's parents Jacob Strickler and Barbara Ellen Slaughter.
Patti would you just happen to know if any of these lines connect to the Cherokee? When I see a name like John Parks Strickler I think well perhaps he was named after John Parks.
I would appreciate any information you can add and thank you so much for your post it gives me some more names to look at.
Thank you. Noel
