Will of Anthony Strother
Written 29 Aug 1765.
In the name of God Amen: I, Anthony Strother, of the Parish of Overwharton in the County of Stafford, do make this my last will and testament in manner following. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary the use of a mulatto girl named Hannah with all her increase; also the power of disposing of her or them as she shall think fit among my children. I give to my daughter Mary the negro girl named Nannie and her increase, to her and her heirs forever, with this proviso, that if my said daughter should die without lawful issue, then the said girl shall go to my daughter Bettie, and if she die before having lawful issue, then she and her increase to be divided among my wife and children hereafter directed. I desire that whatever estate I may have left, after payment of my debts, shall be supplied to the support of my wife and the children I have or may have by her, during the time she remains a widow, or after so as not to exceed ten years from the time of my death, and the residue to be divided in equal shares between her and all my children, except my son Anthony for whom I have done more than I expect to be able to do for the others, and lastly I appoint my beloved wife, Mary Strother, whole and sole executrix. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
Anthony Strother
