Bowling Green Oct. 7, 1924 - April 3, 2006





BOWLING GREEN - Reuben Marion Strother, 81, of Bowling Green, passed away Monday, April 3, 2006, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with the Rev. Karen Blank-Ewell officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Ashley.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, April 5, at the funeral home.

Mr. Strother was born Oct. 7, 1924, in Ashley, the son of Rueben Kendall and Ruth Lovell Strother.

He was married to Marjorie Dunham on Dec. 30, 1956, in New Salem, Ill. She preceded him in death Aug. 22, 1993.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Jean Shaw and husband, Bob, of Bowling Green; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Kendall Shaw and Andrea Jean Shaw, both of Bowling Green.

Mr. Strother lived, farmed and worked in the Ashley-Bowling Green area all of his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green, where he served as a lay speaker and had been chairman of the church board as well as the trustees board. He owned and operated Stro-Wold Farms all of his life. He registered purebred Duroc hogs and Shorthorn cattle for many years. In 1972, he established Stro-Wold International Livestock Services Ltd., where he exported all species of livestock throughout the world. He traveled throughout the U.S. and 48 countries. He was a founding member of the Livestock Exporters Association, served on the University of Missouri's International Agricultural External Advisory Committee, and served on the USDA Health Regulation Committee. He also was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and was very involved in his local community.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 392, Bowling Green, Mo. 63334.

Pallbearers will be Cecil Wells Harness, Cecil "Dockey" Harness, Britt McClain, Dick Grote, Donald Shaw and Scott Mullins.
