I know it can get confusing because so many children named their first born male after the paternal grandfather, etc. and so within one generation you could easily have six people named John Tyler of roughly the same ages and same names. That being said, this is a fairly well-documented family. The John Tyler, father of the President, was the Governor of Virginia and the college roommate of Thomas Jefferson. Alice Strother -- in most the genealogies I've seen -- was the older sister of another Strother daughter (Anne?) who also married a Tyler and I recall reading somewhere where they went to Georgia. (I don't have the files near me at the time.) Alice Strother's other sisters all married men who were very prominent in the settlement of the Valley of Virginia -- John Frogge, Gabriel Jones, John Madison and Thomas Lewis and there are numerous on-line references and genealogies (primary and assembled) for these families. However, I know how easy it becomes for one error many years ago to become accepted as fact just by constant repetition, so it is entirely possible that someone placed this Alice Strother and John Tyler in the wrong line well over a hundred and fifty years ago and it has never been corrected.
