Lois, The most efficient way to find your best link to a Revolutionary War vet is to contact your local DAR chapter and let them know you are interested in membership. Begin at this DAR page http://dar.org/natsociety/chapters.cfm to find one close to you. I found the ladies very kind, and eager to help prove my link. The members have access to records that nonmembers cannot access. The best you can order yourself is the most recent application to the DAR made through your choice of one of his (or her!) offspring. A member can request the application that follows your unique family line the farthest. That will save you proving several generations. Also, it might be a good idea to do it ASAP. I first tried last summer and got no response from the names listed on the chapter's page. I tried again a month ago and I've been amazed and delighted with just how supportive the leadership is. I'm guessing once the chapter quit meeting for the summer, communication slowed. Good luck to you, cousin!
