You probably have this info but the book "1878 History of Benton Co. Iowa" says that Charles E. Sullivan died on Sept 3, 1870 in a railroad accident. He was the brakeman on a train.
Also there is a marriage license for H.W. Holmes and Mrs. Eliza Sullivan on Jan 6, 1879 in Benton Co. Iowa
Just enjoy other peoples ancestry. I live in Lincoln Ne and so noticed your query.
