Several years ago I posted a query on this message board concerning William Harrison Sullivan. Since then, I have come across even more questions. It has been said over and over by members of my family, particularly those who have long since passed on, that William Harrison Sullivan was the BROTHER to John R. Sullivan of Winston County, Mississippi, and the uncle of Dempsey Franklin Sullivan and Joe Seffers Sullivan. Could it be possible that this isn't true at all? Are there several different sets of Sullivans who migrated from all over North Carolina to one general area in Noxubee and Winston Counties, Mississippi, and then several members of those separate Sullivan Families migrated to Bienville/Natchitoches Parishes and adopted each other as "kin"? One thing that has always baffled me is why William Harrison Sullivan went by the nickname of "Big Bill" Sullivan, and John R. Sullivan's son, also named William, went by "Little Bill" Sullivan. It seems like a relationship to me, however it might be a relationship that was formed only after Little Bill's marriage to Big Bill's daughter, Martha Jane. I have heard so many stories about these people from my great grandmother who passed away years ago. I used to sit and listen to her tell these stories, and I kept a pen and paper in hand while she told the stories so that I could record them. I also have her on tape record telling some stories about our Sullivans, who she recalled "were of money". The land that she lived on was originally the homestead/plantation of William Harrison Sullivan, and he is her great grandfather, as well as her husband's great grandfather. So, with myself descended from this man twice, I would love to know more about his connections to the other Sullivans. Jeremy Foster Notify Administrator about this message?
