John Franklin Sutherlin & Sarah Carmichael are my ggg grandparents. Their daughter Jane was my gg grandmother on my mothers side.
They named the city of Sutherlin after the family because they donated the land to the county.

They came across the Oregon Trail via Ox Cart Wagon. I have studied. It is true that the family origiated in Scotland, the last name being Southerland. I have traced back to Alexander Southerland in 1610. I do not have the info at this time, but will find it and finish my research.
