The Ellender Thomas I have information on was born in 1846. Her parents were James H. Thomas and Mariah Stanley. Ellender had a sister, Spicey Thomas born in 1848, and a brother Rufus Daniel Thomas born in 1856. It does not appear that this Ellender is the one you are looking for. Ellender was with her father in Rutherford Co., NC in August 1859 when her father married Polly Mirey Bradley. It was after this marriage that James H. and his three children disappear from the records (I have been able to find). James H. Thomas, father of Ellender, Spicey, and Rufus Daniel, had a sister named Nancy Thomas, born in 1805. Nancy married Bryant Whitley of Wake Co., NC, Dec. 12, 1824 in Johnston Co. They had 7 children but there was not one named Ellender or Merlinda. In 1850 they were still living in Wake Co., NC. Nancy's father's name was Alexander Thomas, born in 1771, and her mother was Polly Murphy. I wish I could have been of greater help. Please let me know what you find in your future research. There may be some other connection or a clue that will point in the right direction. If I find additional info I will be in contact w/ you.
