Evan W. and J. Caroline (White) Haney came from Decatur Co TN to Texas about 1857 and are at Richland Crossing, Navarro Co for the 1860 census. His wife shown as J.C. and two young daughters are on that census (indexed as Harney). Evan died in 1862 from illness while serving in the Tx 19th Reg, Burfords Cavalry.

Haney and White family members were back in Decatur Co TN. David B. and Sarah (White) Haney were Evan's family. We suspect that Sarah's family was the Joseph White family. According to the family story handed down from my great-grandmother, Sarah's widowed father married Evan's widowed mother, with Sarah refusing to come to Texas because "women who go to Texas all died." Decatur Co TN records show that Sarah Haney and Joseph White were married.

Brothers James Addison "Uncle Ad" Haney and George C. Haney are in Shelby Co for the 1860 census (indexed as Hany). George is in Nacogdoches and Uncle "Ad" in Jasper Co by 1870.

The descendants of these three brothers have spent decades finding each other and at long last, finding Evan, George and Uncle Ad. In our family, Evan and Caroline both died in 1862 leaving four orphan daughters in Jasper Co TX. Their 4th daug Johanna Evin (Haney) Poe was born on Christmas Day 1862 and Caroline died the next day. My gg-grandmother Mary (Haney) Spence married into the Spence/Woodall families that took in several of the girls. So did Martha and Fannie.

Each family has its story and we seek to learn more. We are interested in any information about the Haney family.
