Jerry, I am thrilled to get a reply from you. I am cautiously optimistic that you are a new-found relative and maybe we can help each other. My 3rd great grandfather Thomas Davis who was born in 1820 could have been an older brother to your grandfather??? on earlier posting I suggested that he might have been married to a Sarah Thornberry or Thornburg of Virginia. I could find no record of Thomas prior to 1860, 6th district census record, Rutledge,TN and no death records on the net. My 2nd great grandfather who was also a Thomas(John) born in 1859 (8 or 9th child of Thomas) but died in 1908 and I could not access any death records, but found his first born son named Samuel Lee (1883). My 1st grandfather was second born son, James Albert. This much I know for sure. In an attempt to identify the maiden name of Sarah or Sallie who was married to first known Thomas I found his son Calvin, born in 1854 and died in 1916. Calvin's death certificate listed his mother's name as Sally Collins.
By the way, the second Thomas is buried in Buffalo Valley Baptist Cemetary along with a Samuel Davis near by? Is this familiar to you?
I live in New Mexico and have found Tennessee records hard to access on the net. Also, my brother's name is Jerry Davis, eventhough it may be co-incidental, I haven't found any other Jerrys in the family. You may contact me directly at mmarine@zianet.com. Looking forward to hearing from you. I am planning a trip to Nashville and the State Library this year. I am probably the only peron who will go to Nashville with the Library as first objective.
