There were quite a few McWhirter families in Wilson County, TN about 1820. Several of the families that they lived around, such as my Garretts and Pendergrass, all came to Madison and Haywood Counties in the late 1820s and 1830. Perhaps your line came out of Wilson county. If I remember correctly, the name was Hugh McWhirter.
