John was my 6th great grandfather

I have seen many websites and had many emails from people saying John Middleton Maury County Tn, Was the son of Richard IV Middleton. Babados line of Middletons

But how could this be? DAR Records state that Richard IV Middleton did have a son named John, but he died in Chesterfield Dist. SC 1800.

John Middleton of Maury county Tn, was in Greensville County Sc, in 1800.and in Maury County by 1820.

There is a book by Marise Parrish Lightfoot called Let the Drums Roll: Veterans and Patriots of the Revolutionary War who Settled in Maury County, Tennessee. In her book she writes.John Middleton, Senior, b. between 1750 & 1760, Ireland and migrated to South Carolina before the
Revolutionary War. He received payment for militia duty in South Carolina during the years 1779 and

1782. He executed his will on April 17, 1831, and died between that date and June 23, 1831, when the will

was probated in Maury County, Tennessee. In his will he named his wife, Rebecca and two sons, Alfred and Drury.

John's son Alfed moved to Henderson county Tn.

The name Ebenezer was given this community by Col. Alfred Middleton. He was very religious and it is believed he
took this name from the Bible.

Alfred Middleton, the first settler, came in l833. He settled here because deer were exceedingly abundant. The first house in this community was built in 1833. It stands, slightly remodeled, a short distance from its original sight of erection and is occupied by Mr. M. L. Volner. Soon after he settled Col. Middleton gave four acres of land on which to build a church. This church burned in 1886. In the same year the present one was erected. It is not known who the first pastor was. The present pastor is Rev. J. C. Bishop.

Also I have found more false information. There is a old family story about John being in Lee's legion in the Revolutionary War.

I went to DAR with this and found out this not to be true, There was a John Middleton in lee's but he died way before our John Middleton did in Sc.

So who was John Middleton 1760- 1831 Maury County Tn,
