McLean, Sunday afternoon, April 18, 1943, at 1:00 o’clock, Robert Johnston Bateman, aged 63 years of this city; father of Major William C. Bateman of Fort McClellan, Anniston, Ala., and Robert J. Bateman, Jr. of Tulsa, Okla.; brother of Jno. D. Bateman of Atlanta, Ga. The body will lie in state at the First Baptist Church (Lauderdale and Linden Sts.) from 9:30 until 10:30 this Tuesday morning, at which time services will be conducted by the Rev. J. G. Hughes and the Rev. A. U. Boone. Friends are invited. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by the National Funeral Home. Commercial Appeal Memphis, TN Thursday 8-31-1967 MRS. MAE BATEMAN, WIDOW OF BAPTIST PASTOR, DIES AT AGE 87 Services for Mrs. Mae Ford Bateman of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Memphis, who died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in Raleigh, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with Memphis Funeral Home in charge. She was 87. Born in Raleigh, Mrs. Bateman lived here 13 years while her husband, the late Dr. Robert J. Bateman, was pastor of First Baptist. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Raleigh and of the Raleigh Women’s Club. She leaves two sons, Robert Johnston Bateman of Houston, and William Carey Bateman of 5187 South Angela; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
