Hi Carol, I found this 1870 census record which might have your Luther Trowbridge: 1870 - Center Twp., Henry Co., Iowa - p.157 Tro[w]bridge, John, age 36, M, W, farmer, b.Ohio Amanda, age 32, F, W, Keeping house, b.Iowa Louisa, age 10, F, W, attending school, b.Iowa Catharine, age 7, F, W, attending school, b.Iowa Luther, age 4, M, W, b.Iowa Amanda, age 1, F, W, b.Iowa It looks like the parents are John Darius and Amanda Jane (Willeford) Trowbridge, who married on 3 May 1857 in Henry County. Amanda (4 Oct 1838 - 22 Jan 1916) was the daughter of John and Susannah (Smallwood) Willeford. John Darius (30 Jun 1835 - 30 May 1908) was born in either Ohio (census) or in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee (WorldConnect). According to the 1880 census, John's father was born in Virginia and his mother in New York. Unfortunately, John seems particularly difficult to identify in the 1850 census. The best possible candidate I've found so far is this one: 1850 - Union Twp., Madison Co., Ohio - p.187 William Trowbridge, age 58, farmer, b.VA Lydia, age 42, b.VA Jonah, age 17, farmer, b.VA John, age 15, b.VA Samuel, age 13, b.OH Mary Jane, age 10, b.OH William, age 7, b.OH David, age 5, b.OH Albert, age 2, b.OH By best guess is that this is William and Lydia (Watson) Trowbridge. If so, his ancestry is... Samuel (1741-1822) and Christianna (Dumire) Trowbridge, David (1709-1768) and Lydia (Holmes) Trowbridge, Joseph (1676-1715) and Anne (Sherwood) Trowbridge, William (1633-1690) and Elizabeth (Lamberton) Trowbridge, Thomas (1597-1672) and Elizabeth (Marshall) Trowbridge. Of course, there's a lot of speculation here, but I think it's worth following-up. Cheers, Geoff Trowbridge Notify Administrator about this message?
