WOW!! Tania that is amazing information and something to add to the archives. These Thornton people are related via my great grandmother who married firstly John Paul Thornton and had 2 sons. She then married secondly William Kelso Martin and had a son (my grandfather) and daughter.

You don't know who is related to you until you start digging. I would like to venture that the child in question may have been Charles William Thornton as he is the one aged 15 who died at sea, so maybe he ran away, who knows.

I have been trying to enter sites on the net - Libraries etc where there is information but have been unable to get in unless I subscribe so this is not available to me.
