Just a figment of my own imagination?

Hello from a new user :-)

Having spent a few hours trying to find out something, anything, about some of my ancestors,I've drawn a complete blank. Despite having full names, dates and places of birth and death, I cannot find any record of even one of them - including myself (I'm not dead, yet, BTW :-) )

Can anybody please give me some pointers how to establish my existence? I'm beginning to feel very insecure.
