Hi Patti

You make have already found this information.

Thomas Mostyn ANSELL b: 14th October 1884 Birmingham England.
Wife: Emma
Lived: 286 St Dominque St Montreal

This information is part of his Attestation Papers from joining the Canadian arm forces. You can see scan documents at:
http://collectionscanada.ca/index-e.html (just search for Thomas Ansell)

It is a bit strange though, if this is your grandfather as the only birth I could find on FreeBMD was for:

Thomas Mostyn ANSELL b: Qrt Dec 1878 District: Aston Vol: 6d Pg: 347 (which would make him 6 years older than he stated on his Attestation papers.

I also found at findmypast records of migration to Canada for a Thomas Ansell again putting his birth at abt 1884

Name: Thos ANSELL
Date of departure: 18 May 1905
Port of departure: Liverpool
Passenger destination port: Montreal, Canada
Passenger destination: Montreal, Canada

Date of Birth: 1884 (calculated from age)
Age: 21
Marital status: Single
Sex: Male
Occupation: Lab
Ship: TUNISIAN
Steamship Line: Allan Line
Where bound: Montreal, Canada

Anyway hope it helps, let me know

Regards
Tania
