George R. Seay was the first Virginian who came to Texas from our branch of the Seay family. He later fought in the Civil War with General Sibley in the New Mexico campaign. He was given a medical discharge, and came home to La Grange and later died of consumption (TB) in 1864-5.
He married Missouri Ann Eanes. We THINK...we are not sure, they came to Texas in the early 1850's to La Grange, Fayette County, Texas on a wagon train with the "Ligon-Eanes Migration". Ann Eanes Slaughter came on this wagon train, but the names of George R. Seay OR Missouri Ann Eanes are not mentioned.
Problem: We do not have a picture of George Richard Seay. We of have an old picture of a man in this thirties, with a hard look on his face, set in a lovely carved case, with velvet on the inside and framed in a gold trimmed oval case. We have guessed that that was George Richard Seay, but we do not know.
We do have some letter from some the Seays back in Virginia, writing to George Richard's son, George Edward Seay, when George Edward was about 18. They talked about dating girls and going to a dance or something.
We would really like to reconnect to our Virginia Seays who also descend from George Richard and his ancestors. We have 6 generations of Texans now, and the 7th is in Massachusetts...so far...
We would like to know what inspired George Richard to move to Texas. We would like to know more about his Virginia family from Amelia, Va.
Any emails and/or copies of pictures of George Richard Seay or his wife Missouri Ann Eanes AND any earlier Seay pictures or letters would be greatly appreciated.
I can exchange info I have. We have this big gap with George Richard. I feel like we were cut off from his/our Virginia branch after he moved to Texas. Probably other ancestors have letters, pcitures. But the current generation (baby boomers) don't have much from him.
We'd love to communicate with any present day descendants-cousins, who descend from him.
To determine if we are from the same branch I will now list
the family from George Richard back a few generations so you can know which branch I am from:
George Richard Seay son of Samuel Richard Seay and Missouri P Eanes, son of Austin Seay, son of Moses Seay, son of Jacob Seay.
Any pictures, letters, anything connect the dots with George Richard Seay would be great.
I want to write a story of this branch about their adventures from Virginia to Texas, and how they contributed to Texas, and the families they married and allied with. Lots of cowboys and ranchers-->what else?
