I'm looking for information/stories about the Thomases in Buchanan county in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
I'm descended from Andrew "Andy" Thomas, who's father was Andrew Jackson Thomas, whose father was Andrew Thomas, b. 1800 NC, married Anna (Arena?) Johnson.
On the 1860 Census, Andrew Jackson Thomas was 20, living with his father Andrew and Anna. On the 1880 Census, he was listed as Jackson Thomas, his mother Ann and 1 girl, and 3 boys living with him. One is my G-Grandfather, Andy.
Hulda Thomas Gibson is his sister, and Eli Thomas is his brother.
They lived in the Murphy/Little Fox Creek/Sand Lick area of Buchanan County, and were reputed to be outlaws.
I've seen a post that in 1901, a Jim Thomas killed Dave Robinson and Bob Arrington when they tried to raid the Thomases as "White Caps", but Jim Thomas and his gang chased them off.
I've also heard that the Thomases/Gibsons were eventually run off, going to WV or KY.
My line stayed in Buchanan/Dickenson, moved to Grundy, I believe. Andrew(Andy) b.1868, had 4 sons and a daughter: Henry M, Parris, Grover Cleveland"Cleve", and Ira Elbert, my Grandfather.
Anyone know anything about these ruffians?
