I'm hoping someone can help me find the parents and or more info for my Great Great Grandparents, William (Bill) L. *possibly Lewis* McClanahan b. Abt. 1847 Buchanan County, Virginia & Mary (Polly) Estep b. abt. 1850 Kentucky *possibly Pike County* I have been stuggling with this line since I became interested in my family history abt. 8-9 years ago. Any help is much appreciated! I would also love to have copies of any photos that may be found of William, Mary, and/or their children. They had the following children and maybe more: 1. Washington McClanahan b. abt. 1880 married Lucy Delphia Stiltner b. 15 Apr 1884 Buchanan County, Virginia & d. 02 Feb 1974 Buchanan County, Virginia 2. Jane McClanahan (my Great Grandmother) b. 1880 Poplar Creek, Buchanan County, VA. & d. 02 Mar 1954 Paw Paw, Pike County, Kentucky. She married 1st R. Thompson Jessie (my Great Grandfather) and second Thomas Jackson. 3. John McClanahan married Charlotte Stiltner (no info) 4. Harve McClanahan married Nannie Stiltner (possibly Nancy) (no info) MY NOTES ON WILLIAM in case they might help in your search: From: jeffery padfield ygymro@theriver.com Date: Tuesday, May 06, 2003 11:10:55 To: Mccthescot@aol.com; punkin13@netscope.net (me,Pamela) Cc: Joemac1938@aol.com; Patije@worldnet.att.net; marysouth@comcast.net; Ghursey2@aol.com; Cheryl_Colbert@hotmail.com; Mccthescot@aol.com Subject: Re: McClanahan Hey, Pamela! Say, I think I found your guy in the 1870 census of Buchanan Co., VA which reads as follows: Grundy, VA Page 199 William L. McClanahan - Age 22; Farmer; Born in VA Mary McClanahan - Age 19; Born in KY Now, problem is though I still haven't figured out how William was related to the rest of the McClanahans of Buchanan Co. The order of the names in the census reports shows that in 1870 William was living right there among several other McClanahan heads of household who are known to have been the sons and grandsons of David and Mary "Polly" (Aul) McClanahan. He must be related to that family. I went through the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Virginia and Kentucky expecting that I'd find William at age 2 in 1850 and age 12 in 1860 living in the home of his parents. No luck! There's not a sign of him until he appears in the 1870 census as above. Cheryl: Have a look for us in your copy of the 1880 census, please, and see if William and Mary are there in Buchanan Co.; perhaps with a daughter Jane at about age one. Peace, JEFF Notify Administrator about this message?
