I'm posting this for the benefit of anyone researching the Goochland County Riddles. WILL OF JOHN RIDDLE OF GOOCHLAND COUNTY, VIRGINIA Deed Book 10, page 111 (Typed as shown in original document./cat) “In the Name of God amen I Jno Riddle being of perfect mind & sound memory & being mindful of my mortality do dispose of those worldly Goods with which God hath blessed me in form following Imprimis It is my Will & desire that all my just debts be first paid. I Give devise & bequeath to my sister Mary Watts fifty pounds, if She shall survive me, if not, then to be equally devided amongst her children. Item I give to /Jno Herndern & his Heirs forever all my Tools & Cloaths. Item I give & (sic) to James Herndern my Godson ten pounds to him & his Heirs forever. Item I give devise & bequeath all the residue of my Estate to be equally divided among the children of my sister /Eliz Comer decd to them & their Heirs forever. “I do appoint Thos. Riddle & Lewis Herndern Executors of this my last Will & Testament. “Signed seal’d publish’d & declared to be John Riddle this last Will & Testament in presence of us who witnessed it at his request..... Carter Henry Harrison. John Jones “At a Court held for Goochland County, March the 18th 1771. This writing was proved by the oath of Carter Henry Harrison Gent.
