World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918

Name: Charles Potter Booth
City: Roanoke
County: Roanoke (Independent City)
State: Virginia
Birthplace: Virginia;United States of America
Birth Date: 18 Dec 1892
Race: Caucasian (White)
Roll: 1985173
DraftBoard: 1

THIS IS A CUT AND PASTE FROM ANCESTRY.COM I LOOKED AT THE ORIGINAL IMAGE AND IT CLESRLY SAYS 18 DEC 1892

Differences happen all the time...not at all unusual..Info is only as good as the informant and as good as the registrar wanted to be...
In my opinion one's birthdate wasnt as nearly important back in the day as it is now. I have found this problem in nearly everyone one of my ancestors...and in the census it gets worse...I have ancestors that got younger each decade and some who deliberatly lied because they figured it wasn't Uncle Sam's business how old they were and where they were born...Men lie about age just as much as women..and some lied in the draft reg so they looked older in maybe the hopes they wouldn't have to serve...younger men wanted to appear older so they COULD serve..

GOOD LUCK TO YOU

CONNIE
