I am searching for ancestors who lived near Gragston Creek, Butler district, Wayne county, West Virginia 1850 - 1887. My particular interest is in the period of 1870 through 1900. The head of the family was Silas FANNIN. Middle initial given in a marriage record was "M." Silas was born in Kentucky about 1822 according to census information. His wife was "Polly" FERGUSON Fannin. None of the family are listed in the Wayne County cemetery inscription books. The last record I have of my gt. grandmother, Rebecca (FANNIN) WORKMAN is her divorce in 1877. The last record of Silas was a marriage he performed in 1887. I suspect they were buried in the same cemetery as Polly's father, John FERGUSON, Jr. I have never found a good source for that local history in that time. Does anyone know of a historian who can help? I would like to know who was buried in the 25 (or so) unidentified graves in the Ferguson Cemetery on the Horse Farm on Gragston Creek.
