I am seeking information on my 5th G-Grandfather GABRIEL ARTHUR born abt. 1720. He was a Trader among the Cherokee for 70 some odd years, 1st White man to travel through the Cumberland Gap, was called the "White Indian" by the English. See "The Travels of James Needham and Gabrirl Arthur through VA, NC, & beyond, 1673-1674," by Abraham Wood, edited by R.P. Stephen David, JR. "Southern Indian Studies 39:31-35. 1990." It's rummered he married a Cherokee maiden in Chota on the Little Tennessee River, fathered abt. 5 children but only one is known at this time. Martha "Patsy" Rebecca ARTHUR born 1755 at Chota, died before 1840, D/O Gabriel Arthur, married 1772 in Montgomery Co. VA to ABNER ALEXANDER lESTER born 8 August 1754 Lunden Co. VA, died July 1883 Williamson Co. TN, S/O Rryant Lester/Sarah (Winbush) Lester. Would love to find Gabriel's other children plus his wife family, clan, and ect. Any help in that direction would be helpful. Again my thanks from this family for any help in tracting our family history.

James
