I found the parents of Ellen V Apperson on her marriage record in the Buncombe County Courthouse, Ashville, NC in marr1age book 105 (1891-1964). Ellen V Apperson married Joseph David Pool 2-JUL-1914. The following is the text of the record.

Jos D Pool of Buncombe County, age 32, White, son of David Pool and Lydia McConas Pool, father and mother living.

Ellen V Apperson of Buncombe County, age 22, White, daughter of R C Apperson and Emma V Shackelford Apperson. Father living, resident of Richmond, VA, mother deceased. J J Mackey, clerk.

R F Campbell, Presbyterian Minister, united in matrionary Jos D Pool and Ellen V Apperson on second of July, 1914 at West Ashville Presbyterian Church, Ashville, Buncombe County, NC.

There is an attached note which states that R Shachelford, Uncle, gives Ellen V Apperson permission to marry.

The Probate Court Marriage Index (APR 1851-DEC 1937) gives the following information: Pool, Jos D, Age 32, White, Resident of Buncombe County

Apperson, Ellen V, Age 18, White, Buncombe County

Married by Minister R F Campbell 2-JUL-1914
Witnesses: D W Misenheimer, Mrs D W Misenheimer, Mrs R F Campbell.

Notice the age difference for Ellen V Apperson. I know her birth date was 13-DEC-1891 New Kent County, VA. Ellen V Apperson was daughter of daughter of Emma V Shackelford and Robert C Apperson Jr. Emma V Shackelford is the eldest daughter of Andrew J Shackelford and Frances W Mason. R C Apperson Jr is the third son of Robert C Apperson and his wife Martha E Apperson; all of New Kent County, VA.

The next is from book, "Hardestays Historical and Geographical Encyclopedia, H H Hardesty 1884" in the Virginia State Library, Richmond, VA.

Andrew J Shackelford was born in King and Queen County, VA March 6, 1844, and his parents, Richard and Mary F (Stubbs) Shackelford made their home in New Kent County while he was very young.

Enlisted in 1862, Pamunkey Artillery, Custess Lee's Division, and served until taken prisioner in April 1865, at Sailors Creek, Prince Edward County, Virginia, receiving parole at Point Lookout June 22, 1865; In New Kent County, March 19,1868, Frances W Mason became his wife. Her birth was in Caroline County, Virginia, December 17, 1841 the date, and Joseph R and Nancy (Atkinson) Mason her parents. Mr and Mrs Shackelford are the parents of seven children, born to them on the following dates; Emma V, January 27, 1869, Edward A, September 21, 1870, Joseph B, September 2, 1872, Julia F, December 7, 1873, Lewis J, May 28, 1875, Fannie (Florence) S, June 17, 1876, Mary Lee, March 13, 1878.
