Looking for the real husband of Elizabeth Mossom daughter of the Rev David Mossom! THE REYNOLDS THAT ARE NOT ELIZABETH MOSSOM’S HUSBAND Sorry NO one named William Reynolds married Elizabeth Mossom (daughter of the Rev David Mossom) Sorry the John Reynolds born 10 February, 1724/25 in Virginia, son of Richard and Mary Anderson Reynolds didn’t married Elizabeth Mossom either. He married Martha Patsy Gore Sources: Title: Letter from Kathleen McKee Cook.. ELIZABETH MOSSOM tombstone clearly states she was married to JOHN REYNOLDS from BRISTOL and he was a Mariner. Tombstone inscription handcopied St. Peter's Parish Church, New Kent County, VA. HERE Lies interred the Body of ELIZABETH, wife of Mr JOHN REYNOLDS, of the City of Briftol Marriner, & Daughter of the Revd Mr DAVID MOSSOM Rector of this Parifh, She Departed this Life December the 24th 1754 Aged 30 years P.S. I know many research use the following source to base the William Reynolds and Elizabeth Mossom marriage. William may have married an Elizabeth Mossom but it was not the Rev David Mossom daughter. William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine MOSSOM BIBLE - I have been favored by Mrs. Calvin Perkins, of Memphis, Tennessee, with a view of the Bible used by Rev. David Mossom, who married George Washington at St. Peter's Church, New Kent. On the inside front cover is: "Ri: Criche 1660. David Mossom his book given by Ric: Criche Esq. 1699." On the inside back cover is written: "My Dear father died September 12th 1701, I then being eleven years old & a half". As Rev. David Mossom was born March 25, 1690; this probably refers to the death of his father. On a flyleaf are these entries: "David the son of David and Eliza Mossom was born Sunday Aug 21 about half an hour past seven in the evening & baptized Sunday Sept the 4th 1715." "Robert the 3rd son of David and Eliza Mossom was born Saturday December 1st about eleven of the clock and baptized Sunday the 16: 1716. He died Thursday Sept 26, 1717 about 6 clock in the morning, and war buried Sep 27 in St. Margaret's Churchyard." "Thomas the 4th son of David & Eliza Mossom was born Wed May 14th at a quarter past one in the morning Baptized on Whit-Sunday June 1st 1718." "Susanna Daughter of David: & Eliza Mossom was born Friday July 22d & 3 quarter past four in the morning & Baptized Sunday July 31, 1720." "Elizabeth Daughter of David & Eliza Mossom was born Friday Sept 21 near ten in the morning & Baptized Sunday Sept 30, 1722." *As shown elsewhere, Rev. David Mossom married three times: Elizabeth, above named who died January 28, 1737. - St. Peter's Parish Register. Mary ---- (mentioned in his epitaph, Meade, II, 460). Elizabeth Soane, widow of Benskin Marston, and daughter of Henry Soane, who was son of Henry Soane, speaker of the House of Burgesses. She died April 2, 1759, aged fifty-five years. (Charles City Records and Elizabeth (Soane) Mossom's tombstone). Rev. David Mossom was born March 25, 1690 and died January 4, 1767. **The youngest child above of the first marriage, Elizabeth Mossom, born in 1722, married Captain William Reynolds, owner of a vessel plying in the tobacco trade. their daughter, Elizabeth, married Richard Chapman, Jr., and the births of their children are entered in an old prayer book which I have been permitted to see: Jane Chapman was born 29 Feb. 1776. [Mrs. Price, of Hanover, d.s.p.] Reynolds Chapman was born 22 July 1778 [died February 1844. Succeeded George C. Taylor as clerk of Orange in 1802. He married Rebecca Conway Madison, daughter of General William Madison and his wife Frances Throckmorton. One of their children was Judge John Madison Chapman, who married August 3, 1841, Susannah Digges Cole.] Johnson Chapman was born 26 Dec. 1780. [Signed] Sunday mar. 1781, Rich. Chapman". *What or where is elsewhere information from? ** I don’t think the Elizabeth Mossom that married Captain William Reynolds was the Rev David Mossom daughter. On her tombstone it states she married John Reynolds and died in 1754. Captain William Reynolds and that Elizabeth Mossom had children that were born after the Rev David Mossom daughter Elizabeth was died. I, Patricia Oliver Holloway "think" maybe there were two Elizabeth Mossom. One married William Reynolds (born in America) and the other married John Reynolds (born in England). Both Elizabeth had sons named Aaron Reynolds. One Aaron Reynolds married Catherine Chamber and the other Aaron Reynolds married Martha Davis. I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET TO PUT THIS PUZZLE TOGETHER. I HAVE VARIOUS TOMBSTONES AND BIBLE RECORDS IF YOU WOULD LIKE COPIES PLEASE E-MAIL ME. "Thanks to the strangers, friends and family, who while I climbed my rugged family tree, planted tender sprigs of ivy and so covered the rough places."
