Providence Church?

Cited as near Suffolk, Nansemond county, Virginia. Where, what and history??

Its cited in
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GODWIN/1998-05/0896332810 as being near "Small Hopes Farm"
where Felix Thomas Sharples did portraits of The Borlands, Godwins, and Greens in 1809.

These portraits now housed at Chrysler Museum of Art, in Norfolk, Virginia. Line of ownership is: Euclid Borland, (1809VA-1881VA), Thomas Roscius Borland (1844NC-1900VA), nephew of Euclid, s/o Roscius Cicero Borland (1807VA-1845MS), Colonel Charles Barney Borland (1886VA-1972VA), s/o Thos R Borland, Auslew Gallary(Norfolk), 1964 to Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia.

Notation on back of Roscius Cicero Borland's (#64.34.2) portrait says done at Small Hopes Farm

See http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/hertford.htm (search Borland, seen as "Image" under biographies).
