Hi Linda, This John Carew is mentioned several times in Accomack County, VA Court Order Abstracts, 1663-1666. Did you estimate his date of death from a probated will or his disappearance from Northampton County public record? If it is the latter, consider the county split in 1662 or 1663. Residents of upper Northampton (above Occohannock Creek) became residents of Accomack, therefore rarely, if ever, appearing in Northampton records again. This John Carew seems to have run afoul of the law for a spurt of time, but that's no big deal (I'm a Scarborough descendant and could tell you some things). Everyone did, from the Royal Governor to the ministers. p.45-(11/10/1663)- "The suit against Jno. Carew by Mihill Ricketts was dismissed because Ricketts failed to enter his complaint..." p.66-(1/19/1663-64)- "Ordered that the sheriff take Jno. Carew into custody till further notice for insolency to the court and striking Mihill Ricketts, church warden." p.79-(4/16/1664)- "Ordered that John Carew remain in custody till further orders." AND "John Milby complained that John Carew, who lived at Milby's house, had committed 'several abuses' against Milby. Ordered that Carew post bond for good behavior, remove his property from Milby's plantation, and stay away from it or forfeit his bond." p.124-(8/16/1665)- "Ordered that John Carew be fined 1000 lbs. tobacco for not tending corn. He paid court charges." p.126-(9/16/1665)- "Ordered that the sheriff take John Carew into custody until he posted bond for good behavior toward Fenlow MackWilliam and all loyal citizens. Carew paid court costs." p.131-(11/16/1665)- "The court denied the request of John Carew that his bond be released. Ordered that it be continued.' p.132- (same day)- "Fenlow MackWilliam, who formerly posted bond for John Carew's good behavior, requested to be discharged. Proclamation was made 3 times with no objection. Ordered that MackWilliam be discharged and pay court costs." AND "Ordered that [John Carew] be kept in custody until posting bond for his good behavior with other security in the place of Fenlow MackWilliam and paying court costs." p.134-(11/17/1665)- "In the August court John Carew was fined 1000 lbs tobacco for not tending his corn. Ordered that 500 lbs. tobacco be seized by the sheriff this year; the rest to be seized next year." p.138-(12/18/1665)- "Three courts ago, John Carew posted bond for good behavior. He now requested to be released. Proclamation was read three times without objection so his bond was delivered to him with court costs." There is also on p.87 an "Allen Carew" listed as headrights for Edward Smith at the 8/16/1664 court session. Hope this is helpful. Good luck, Kim Longus Notify Administrator about this message?
