My family goes by boat to Parramore Island every Sunday that's suitable to picnic and enjoy the beach. It's so peaceful out there. According to Whitelaw book William Custis was patented in 1686 and called it "Feaks his Island". In 1726 Custis, wife Bridgett, left to daughter Bridgett, but if she had no heirs then to a grandaughter, Joanna Custis Hope, who married Thomas Parramore. This is how the Parramore's came into possession. It stayed in the Parramore family until 1871 when all the Parramore heirs united in a deed to Tallmadge F. Cherry of Baltimore. Hope this has shed some light on the subject for you. It was indeed named for your family. The Coast Guard station burned a few years ago. We usually go to the southern end closest to Hog Island. The shape changes almost weekly. There's still some wooded area there. The storms and tides take their toll of damage, but it's still such a beautiful, secluded place. By the way, Parramore Island is claimed by Accomack County. Candy
