An amazing number of my maternal ancestors lived in Rockingham, Shenandoah and other nearby counties during the 1800's (to finally all end up in Cumberland, MD!) I've had incredible successes and complete brick walls in my searching. Please bear with me, when they are not ALL from Page Co.... I have Samuel Benson Jewell, b. Jun 18 1809, VA d. Apr 01 1877. He was listed as a shoe-maker in 1860 census and enlisted in the Civil War. HE lived in Rockingham Co., but I can't find anything on his parents/ancestors. He married Sarah Ann Pirkey Long (of Rockingham Co.) in 1850. I have NO idea of her family. At first I assumed Long was her maiden name, but have since found the surname Pirkey, so I'm thinking she was previously married a to Mr. Long(?) Their son, Emanuel Jefferson Jewell (and I hear about the Jewells being associated with Tenth Legion) was born Mar 12 1851, Rockingham Co, VA d. Oct 13 1939 VA. His first (of three) wives was Susan Price b. Feb 06 1845 Page Co, VA d. Apr 24 1883 Rockingham Co, VA. Her Father, David Price, was a farmer/shoe-maker b. ABT 1823 Page Co., VA He married an Elizabeth. If ANYONE is familiar with these people and can provide clues or information I'd be very grateful! Terry Notify Administrator about this message?
