The 1880 census in Dan River Patrick Co shows James King, a carpenter, age 34 born in NC and wife Jane 31 born in NC. They show children in the home William B age 12 born NC, Nancy 6 born NC, Wilson 2 born NC. I believe that Jesse Martin King was born to this couple in Dec 1880. I guess that Wilson died young. I traced back to NC and found 1870 In Ellendale Alexander Co. James King age 24 farmer and wife Ellen 25 keeping house and William age 2 and Laura A 3 mo. In 1860 I found among other children James age 14 in the home of Lewis King in Taylorsville, Alexander NC. I believe Jane's maiden name was Cantrel or Cantrell, whose father was Martin Cantrel from Polk Co. NC If this James King is not Jane Cantrel's husband then I am totally off base and have to start over. James was first married to Ellen and apparently William is her son. Perhaps Laura A died young. Jane may have been married or something before she married James. I dont know who fathered Nancy. Sometime between 1880 and 1885 Jane and James departed company and Jane married Tyre Riggans and had 3 more children, 1885 Mary Elizabeth Riggans who Isaac L Horton of Carroll Co. VA, 1887 Martha Jane Riggans who died young, Lucy Lavora Riggans who married Luther Hall in Durham NC. Jesse King shows up for the first time in 1900 in Dan River, Patrick Co. census living in the home of Hillary T Jessup and working as a laborer. Jane and Tyre Riggans are in the poorhouse in Surry Co NC in 1900 Census. Nancy married Luther Blevins and is in Wythe Co Va in 1900 census. Mary and Lucy Riggans are in the home of John and Jane Ayers in Carroll Co VA in 1900 census. What I am trying to find out is what ever happened to James King and his son William and if there are any of their descendants out there somewhere Please call me or email 540-788-4104. No soliciters. I am also trying to verify that I have found the right King individual as the father of Jesse King. I could be terribly mistaken. Jesse King married Mary Empress Loving. Thanks and apologize if I have your family confused with mine.
